These stunning covers illustrate the craftsmanship during the Golden era of
advertising covers. The Civil War brought a multitude of envelopes printed with patriotic designs of all sorts. Most of these were printed in more than one color, and as a group, they represent the first major effort in printing multicolor designs in the U.S. By the end of the war, illustrated covers were firmly established in an ever increasing variety, and improvements in design and printing techniques resulted in the beautiful and striking covers presented in our auction.
