Is pleased to dedicate its Friday, October 18 Auction to benefit a group of non-profit institutions
Each of the organizations listed in this announcement have contributed one or more lots to this auction.
Proceeds from the sale of that specific lot will be returned to that group.
These fine organizations by their good works have attracted a devoted group of individuals interested in continuing their mission. We, at Connecticut River Book Auctions, are pleased to be able to assist them and encourage readers of the “Antiques And The Arts Weekly” to learn more about these and similar groups in your community.
This auction consists of 200 plus lots of travel and exploration, history, fiction, ephemera and children’s literature. Highlights include signed letters and documents from Presidents John Quincy Adams, “Teddy” Roosevelt, Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Harry Truman, and Dwight Eisenhower, The Federalist (2nd Philadelphia edition), several Bibles, and much more.
Of special note: There are several lots of prints and artist’s proofs from the Society of Iconophiles belonging to Edwin B. Holden a founding member of that group, past president of the Grolier Club and a world respected bibliophile and print collector. At a Grolier Club exhibition of the Iconophiles work it observed, ”In a rear-guard stand against photographic reproduction processes, the Iconophiles published only original engravings, etchings, and lithographs…Its prints and books were prepared with an attention to detail and luxuriousness which is inconceivable today.”
Just Added – The 1855 edition of McKenney and Hall’s “History of the Indian
Tribes,” three volumes in full tooled leather with 120 colored plates.
This is a lovely set with modest wear to the covers. The colored plates
are clean and bright. Visit www.ctriverbookauction.com to download
