Paintings, Autographs, Books, Antique Appointments from the Estates of three prominent gentlemen, all of whom had a great appreciation of the arts, and furnished their houses appropriately
Principal among the many articles in this sale are autographed documents by George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, James Madison, James Monroe, Woodrow Wilson and hand-written letters by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Oscar Wilde.
Among the many artists represented are: Albert P. Button (2), Anne Congdon (attr.), Victor deGrailly, George W. Gent (huge canvas), Joseph H. Greenwood, C. Gordon Harris, Edmund Darch Lewis (3), F. C. Mathewson, John McGowan, Wm. Paskell (3), Ted Tihansky, 19th C. portrait painters.
Other interesting articles: steering wheel (6 ft. in diameter) from ship that went aground off Nantucket many years ago, Joslin, Hammett globes, banjo clocks, Bigelow & Kennard tallcase clock, early American cupboards and blanket chests in original paint, Chinese umbrella stands and garden seats, antique Hammond #12 typewriter, large Abercrombie & Fitch leather pig (1965), dioramas, Louis Vuitton trunk #115622, carved animal figures, quantities of Canton and Imari porcelain, and a virtual library of very old books (some quite valuable) and including the 15-volume edition of Mrs. Humphry Ward’s works encased.
