Over 400 lots of English and American furniture and decorative arts from the Estate of Richard and Elizabeth “Betty” Seeler. A one day, singleowner sale held during Americana Week, featuring fine American and English decorative arts and antique furniture, American folk art and British Academic paintings, and Chinese Export decorative objects. A quiet but well known presence in the NY design community, Elizabeth “Betty” Seeler developed a unique design sensibility while setting up her gracious Forest Hills Gardens home, amassing a considerable collection of fine antiques and decorative items with excellent provenance from well-respected dealers, auction houses and collections, including Peter Tillou, The Chrysler Garbisch Collection, Ginsburg & Levy, W. Graham Arader and Earle Vandekar. Highlights include a wonderful selection of American Chippendale and Federal furniture including a c. 1770 Connecticut Queen Anne Cherry Highboy with Ima Hogg provenance and a signed c. 1820 Samuel Townshend inlaid sideboard; an extensive group of American folk children portrait paintings including a rare c. 1840 Hannah Fairfield double portrait, and a work by William Matthew Prior; British Equestrian and Sport paintings by Francis Sartorius, Thomas Spencer, Richard Roper, and others; a fine and extensive collection of botanicals in various media including 18th c. color botanical engravings, various 18th c. English Swansea, Chelsea, and Worcestrer botanical decorated porcelains, and an extensive group of late 20th c. Lady Anne Gordon glazed ceramic vegetables; a varied selection of rare 19th c. Pittsburgh and Nailsea Marbrie glass objects; assorted 18th c. English mochaware; and over twenty 19th c. American folk tinsel paintings. Rounding out the sale is a small but interesting group of Chinese Export objects, including enameled porcelains, and lacquerwares.
