15 original watercolors of Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans.
Given to our consignor at age 12 year in 1954 who had gone to Central Park to play chess, these images were drawn by the artist and given to children to publicize and sell his books.
They were given to the consignor to distribute to his friends.

15 original watercolor paintings of beloved children’s book character, Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans, are being presented for sale at Auction in a very rare discovery! The various images of the book’s main character, famous for the red hair under her cap and her daily adventures around Paris, were given to our consignor in 1954 at age 12 during   visit to New York’s Central Park where he went to play chess. The images were done by the artist and distributed to children in the park to publicize and sell his books. Our consigner received a handful under the instruction to distribute them to his friends at school, which he did. The 15 he kept have a very special storybook tale of their own.
