America’s Oldest and Most Accomplished Rare Coin Auctioneer
Larry Ness set out to complete the Indian Peace Medal series, acquiring specimens from a wide variety of sources and in turn building one of the best and most complete collections of all time.
He had remarkable success acquiring the silver originals awarded to Native Americans, collecting 36 examples ranging from an impressive First Size Thomas Jefferson through the extremely rare 1890 Benjamin Harrison (shown here), this one with provenance to the original recipient Buffalo Meat, a Cheyenne Chief. Bronze medals begin with John Adams and include the important rarities of the later Oval series. Also showcased is a representative collection of French, Canadian, and most notably, British medals in silver and bronze, as well as a pair of very rare medals related to the Fur Trade, including the remarkable awarded 1843 Fur Trade Indian Peace Medal descended in the family of Archibald McDonald (1836-1915), the last Chief Factor of the Hudson’s Bay Company.
Print catalogs will be available in mid-October,
