Antique Furniture, Paintings, Porcelain, Objets d’art, from estates in Newport, Little Compton and S. Dartmouth, MA
Inspection: Tuesday August 3 from 1 to 4 pm and one hour before sale on Wednesday
This sale will feature the Pennsylvania highboy from the Estate of Clara Glatfelter Moul of Hanover, PA., and descending to the Estate of Eleanor G. Taylor of Providence and Little Compton, RI. Other articles from the Taylor estate include a Rhode Island highboy, Bermuda cedar chairs, and China Trade paintings.
The prominent Kendall and Wood Prince estates of Newport are also well-represented with artwork by Giovanni Benzoni (marble statue), Nicholas Briganti, H. H. Cross, Charles P. Gruppe, 26 Eduard Detaille colored military prints, and by rareTibetan and Chinese drawings. English furniture, lacquered Chinese screens, needlepoints, baronial armchairs, and a Samuel Rowlandson 1850 globe from South Dartmouth will gain your attention.
Philadelphia: The superior applied carving on this highboy – of the two fans, the scrollage and leafage – distinguish it as being from the workshop of William Savery, one of Pennsylvania’s most accomplished 18th Century cabinet makers.
