ONLINE — Auctioneer Edward B. Beattie will offer the contents of a historic estate in Andover, N.H., with no additions, online through Auction Ninja beginning August 5. The sale ends on Thursday, August 19, at 7 pm.
“We have been fortunate to clear out this entire large estate in Andover, N.H.,” said Edward B. Beattie, auctioneer. “It is a fabulous antique estate with multiple buildings. The owner appreciated antiques, art, books and fine furnishings. We will sell the contents with no addition or exclusions.”
Overall highlights will include some paintings from the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries, including two works signed Charles Hoffbauer, several framed landscapes and marine scenes and a portrait of a dog by Melbourne H. Hardwick. There are also etchings, Asian prints, Japanese woodblock prints, Selmar Hess prints and several Audubon prints. There will be hundreds of antique books, including a 1720 Tatler book, a 1713 book in Latin and large lots of books from the considerable home library.
“The sale will feature the most extensive and interesting collection of Peking glass we have ever brought to auction,” said Beattie. “There are snuff bottles, bowls, chargers, vases, cups, beads and more in truly vibrant colors.”
Typical of a true estate sale, there will be many fun lots, including a pair of porcelain and bronze parrot figural candlesticks, a pair of European fern planters, an L. Casellap pocket barometer, vintage postcards, Dimes chairs, a collection of old tools and an early spinach green jade cup with an incised reign mark.
