SCHNECTADY, N.Y. — Mazzone’s Auction Service will conduct a live auction from two local estates with no reserve bids on Sunday, September 19. To be auctioned are a matching pair of hunting pistols, circa 1800, that were presented to Benny Goodman at the end of World War II for his efforts by the US Army, which he kept on display in his office in New York City. These pistols were made in Germany by Christian Koerber Sr. Koerber, a Dane, had originally made the guns for the Prince of Hesse.
Other items up for bid include a 16-foot custom-made 1950s tunnel boat with a four-cylinder Red Wing engine in running condition, more than ten hit-and-miss engines, period and turn-of-the-century furniture, a variety of early lighting, several oils on canvas (some signed by listed artists), many collectibles, snowshoes, wicker backpacks, a stoneware jug displaying a misspelled “Catskill, NY” label, a variety of hunting items, rifles and many military items.
Some military items include a World War I British Commando knife signed by five men in the unit, a World War I combat knife with brass knuckle guard, bayonets, helmets/field gear, rare World War I photo album/scrapbook containing several military photos and an oil on board of the Confederate General Albert Pike. Pike was a known author, poet, editor, lawyer and prominent member of the Freemasons, as well as an associate justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court.
