Merrill’s Auctions is pleased to offer items from the estate of Iris Cornelia Love (1933- 2020), widely celebrated for her boundary-breaking career in Archaeology, including her rediscovery of the Temple of Aphrodite at Knidos, as well as for her success as a Westminster champion dachshund breeder. Ms. Love was the longtime partner of NYC writer and columnist Liz Smith, and a prominent figure in New York society for decades. At auction will be antiques and artifacts from Iris’s Lincoln, Vermont home, including Chinese Tang Dynasty pottery, 18th-century Chinese scrolls, bronzes, a collection of contemporary Southwest pottery, furniture and art descending from her Guggenheim ancestors, as well as silver and jewelry from her New York apartment. Merrill’s will also sell selections from other fine estates including an outstanding collection of maps from the 17th- 20th centuries, Asian art from area estates & homes, & items sold to benefit Brattleboro Area Hospice.
