MANCHESTER, N.H. — On Sunday, October 31, Jones and Horan will present a live and webcast auction conducted with no reserves, no buyer’s premium, no sales tax and no bidding fees. Catalogs are free as is domestic shipping. The auction contains 435 lots of rare men’s vintage and modern wristwatches, European and American pocket watches, deck and military watches, collectible American coins, estate jewelry, clocks and accessories. Items come from several major collections and private sources, all to be liquidated at absolute auction.
Lead wristwatch items include a Rolex Oyster Cosmograph “Tropical” Daytona, ref 6265, circa 1972; a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner “Square Crown Guard,” ref 5512, circa 1959; a Patek Philippe, Genève, Gondolo Calendario Annual Calendar, ref 5135G, circa 2007, and an Omega Speedmaster Pre-Moon, ref 2998-5, manual wind with its rarely seen original boxes. Other vintage wristwatches include more examples from Rolex, Patek Philippe and Omega, along with Cartier, Vacheron & Constantin, Breitling Navitimer and Universal Genève.
Highlights from European pocket watches include a Patek Philippe, Genève, observatory grade timepiece that was owned by oil industrialist Joseph S. Cullinan, founder of the “The Texas Company,” which became Texaco in 1959; an originally boxed Patek Philippe, Genève, minute repeater with certificate; and a Jules Jurgensen, Copenhagen, minute repeater tandem-winding split-seconds chronograph with 1/5-second jump.
Items from the American pocket watch section include a rare Illinois Bunn Special Grade 161B; an example from the rare maker J.P. Stevens Watch Co, Atlanta, Ga., in original heavy 18K gold box hinge drum style J.P. Stevens & Co. case; an Edward Howard 23 sapphire jewel with 18K gold case engraved “Captain B.J. Mullaney from Officers and Crew of USS Mullany, DD528, Sept. 1944;” and a G.P. Reed, Boston, 15J, with 54-hour winding indicator.
Estate jewelry features a diamond and platinum engagement ring with the emerald cut diamond center weighing in at 5.05 carats, J color VS2 clarity. The ring comes with a recent appraisal with an estimated replacement value of $103,740. Also included are a diamond, sapphire and 18K yellow gold spring loaded choker necklace in a Cartier style with two leopards in a relaxed pose; and a Cartier “LOVE” bracelet in 18K yellow gold, size 21, thick gauge construction with screw head design.
American coins feature a US Flying Eagle cent, 1856, ANACS MS62 grade; a US Flowing Hair dollar, 1795 with 2 Leaves, ICG EF45 grade; a proof US Buffalo nickel, 1913 Type 1, NGC PF65 grade, a US Lincoln Wheat cent, 1914-D, ANACS MS63BRN grade; and a US Lincoln Wheat cent, 1909-S VDB, PCGS MS64RB grade.
Immediately following the live webcast auction is a bonus auction of mostly bulk horological item lots to be sold only to bidders in attendance at the auction location.
