This will be the most interesting and exciting auction that Gustave White has held in many years, as most of the pieces are from the attics of two Bellevue Avenue mansions now under contract for over $15,000,000 each.
From one of these great houses come nine (9) Louis Vuitton trunks (several in the earlier Damier “squares” pattern) and all with their full complement of drawers and trays, and all at least half-filled with fancy linen which kept our fabrics expert busy for two days: architectural appointments from the original Chinese tea house.
Other highlights are carriage and palace urns and lanterns, a George Adams gilt sterling fruit set, Kirk & Sons bowls, Tiffany and Gorham services.
Persian and Caucasian rugs, kelim-upholstered chairs, pedestals, George Vernon vanities, Warfield collection of carved birds, Fleur-de-lis mirrors, and many old unusual pieces at one time in everyday use by the original owners of these houses.
Artists represented are Wm. M. Anderson, Fanny Baylen, Beverley Corbin, Thomas B. Craig, C. M. Dick, Wm. J. Dow, Russell Drisch, Richard Grosvenor, C. E. Ross, Penrose Stout, Prints by John Mecray.
