GLEN COVE, N.Y. — Concluding its successful series of winter auctions, Roland Auctions will round out the season by presenting a multiple estates sale on Saturday, February 26, at 10 am.
Roland NY has curated more than 750 lots of art, prints, furniture, porcelain, textiles, silver, gold and silver jewelry, rugs, collectibles, Asian art and lighting from estates and collectors from all over the Northeast; more treasures come from the Upper East Side estate of a prominent New York City interior decorator and the estate of Roger Prigent — Malmaison, as well as American and European antiques from the estate of an East Coast collector.
Fine art being offered will include a Josef Floch (Austrian American, 1894-1977) oil on canvas titled “Three Sisters.” An important painting with excellent provenance, it was sold directly from the artist to the consignor. This painting was awarded the Andrew Carnegie Prize in 1970 ($25/35,000) and a pair of continental capriccios, framed classical oils on canvas depicting figures in ruins ($1,5/2,500).
Unique bronze sculptures being featured include an after Georg Kolbe bronze sculpture of a nude seated woman, in dark green patina on a stone base, signed “GK,” #1/10 ($5/7,500), a Théophile François Somme (French, 1871-1952) Art Nouveau gilt bronze and white marble sculpture titled “Inspiration,” depicting a woman playing a harp $(2/3,000); and an after Philippe Hiquily bronze sculpture of seated nude woman, signed and numbered E.A. 2/6 ($1,8/2,400).
Also taking the spotlight will be antique furniture pieces like a Twentieth Century Louis XV-style carved gilt wood console table having an overhanging serpentine green marble top above a front frieze with shell and foliate motifs, a shell-carved stretcher connecting the pair of foliate carved cabriole legs ($2/4,000), a pair of Louis Majorelle Art Nouveau kingwood and marble inset bedside night tables, circa 1900, each with an oval candle holder above a marble top and a single drawer ($2/3,000); and a pair of Louis XVI-style carved walnut bergeres with nail head trim ($3/4,000).
Lighting being offered will include a Tiffany-style bronze table lamp with slag glass shade ($2/3,000) and a German baroque 20-light brass chandelier, probably Lübeck, Seventeenth Century, with a bulbous body issuing two tiers of scrolled cast candle branches ending in dished drip-pans and turned nozzles ($2,5/3,500).
Offered in other areas, bidders will see an unusual Steinway & Sons Grand Piano, 1925, in ebony case, originally a player piano, converted to a regular piano, having had the player mechanism removed and the legs adapted ($5/7,000). There’s also a wood centerpiece bowl with elephants carved from exotic wood with the bowl centered on three carved ebony elephants ($2,5/3,500).
Previews for the sale will take place on Thursday and Friday, February 24-25, from 10 am to 6 pm.
