RED HOOK, N.Y. — Coming off its recent successful auction that featured a large collection of Sascha Brastoff material, George Cole Auctions has curated another collection for its upcoming May 21 auction. The firm will run a two-session auction on that date featuring an unusual collection from the estate of the man known as “The Michelangelo Of Broadway,” Nino Novellino. Novellino and his company, Costume Armour, were well-known producers of sculptures, props and set pieces. Novellino, resident of Goshen, N.Y., passed away on June 11, 2021. He came into this world on June 25, 1940, and grew up in Glen Rock, N.J. His unique talent for art was discovered early and he graduated with honors from Pratt Institute in New York.

His sculptures, props and set pieces appeared on hundreds of Broadway stages from Man of La Mancha to Phantom of the Opera. New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, The Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and the Martha Graham Dance Company as well as The Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera were enhanced by his talents. He helped to jazz up the stages of Las Vegas and added to the enchantment to all four of the Disney Theme Parks as well as Universal Studios. Even Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, the Big Apple Circus and Radio City Music Hall were touched by Costume Armour. Film and television were also graced by his artwork.

George Cole Auctions will be selling many items actually produced by Costume Armour, as well as decor and furnishings from Novellino’s residence and statuary from throughout the residence, gardens and coach house.

Session 1 – Gardner’s Delight — starts 10:30 am and will feature 130 lots of statuary and garden items.

Session 2 — Magnificent Obsession — starts 5 pm and will feature more than 350 lots of furnishings and décor, artwork, lighting, floor coverings, etc.
