HUDSON, N.Y. — On May 21, Public Sale Auction House will conduct a Midcentury Modern and design auction. Titled “Design! Design! Design!,” the auction features furnishings, including a variety of lighting, seating, tables, art and home decor for design aficionados and diverse tastes.
This auction has a focus on design, with a highlighted collection of items designed by Philippe Starck. The collection includes some rare Starck pieces, including a sofa and chair from the Royalton Hotel in New York City. The Starck furniture is not the only postmodern design. The postmodern ranges from a pair of Memphis-style folding screens to a unique floor lamp called Footsteps torchiere. The postmodern furnishings range from handmade custom pieces to designer manufactured items, including mirrors, chairs and even a unique tapestry.
There are some Danish modern selections, including tables, desks, chairs and accessories. Some highlights include a chair by Ole Wanscher and an entire dining room set from a Catskills home.
The various artworks on offer include a pencil-signed print by Alexander Calder. Another art piece in the auction is a rug wall hanging of a work by Matisse.
The auction presents more than 450 lots and includes many other special items, like a rare Paul Evans Brutalist table, a pair of Richard Ginori lamps, a group of rare Art Deco furniture designed by Donald Deskey and even a scarce Roy Lichtenstein paper plate.
The auction will be conducted at noon on May 21 at Public Sale’s location at 90 Green Street, with in-person preview from May 14-21 from 10 am to 5 pm. Public Sale accepts absentee bids and phone bids for this auction. For information, 518-966-7253 or www.public-sale.com.
