BOUCKVILLE, N.Y. — Two small towns in New York’s Mohawk Valley come together for antiques and collectibles shopping twice each year, in all 51 times, excepting the Covid-19 lockdowns. This year, Friday through Sunday, June 2-4, the show fields will welcome more than 2,000 exhibitors on 14 show fields. All fields have free admission, and the local tourist board claims that about 10,000 shoppers arrive in June. There is parking, some of which is charged and some free. Shows fill early Friday, carrying the many shoppers to the collections for sale.
Northern New York has been well known as a great source for fresh antiques, especially in American made Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century furniture and household accessories. This history creates an environment at this market and again August 14-20 where the shoppers, both homeowners, collectors and a great many dealers from other areas seize first-time-out treasures for their homes and inventories.
Over the years names have changed, owners have retired and sold to new show managers but the fields continue to be one of the premier opportunities in the United States for finding great early American antiques. Among the larger fields, Cider House Antiques has been adding several features since being taken over by Jim and Ruth Dutcher a decade ago, including free parking, a large campground and food service.
Out Front Show is across the road and is among the markets with a permanent building on site, giving weather protection for the exhibitors. East Expo is only two booths deep from the street, but then it is about a quarter mile long with several multi-dealer tents.
Quaker Acres West reopened last year, adding to the field’s support from the Boyce Family’s shop, which will also be open all through the show, hosting at least 150 exhibitors and parking in the rear. There are many more shows, but as they are contiguous, covering them for good picking is easy for the shoppers.
Food service is plentiful, and most food vendors are open
During setup days for the dealers, most fields allow shoppers to begin to wander the grounds as the exhibitors unload their vans, trailers and trucks. Hotels for visitors and dealers are the chains in Utica and Syracuse as well as several in the nearby college town, Hamilton. This country crossroads is about 25 miles south of Syracuse and southwest of Utica.
