PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Bert Gallery is conducting its first online auction on LiveAuctioneers, “Summer 2022,” on Thursday, July 14, at 2 pm Eastern time. Owner Catherine Little Bert said, “It is exciting to expand the gallery outreach beyond 24 Bridge Street in Providence to a wider audience online. It is a steep learning curve, but we are expanding our gallery brain power to promote the ‘Providence School.’”
All of the bidding and purchasing takes place online through the Live Auctioneers platform.
Most of the paintings online are historic American painters acquired by collectors in Providence, the home of several important American painters and active collectors in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Century. Many contributed to the regional American art scene becoming innovators and promoters in the national arena of American painting.
Generations of artists have lived and painted in Rhode Island since the 1800s where a distinct art culture evolved around the Providence Art Club, the Rhode Island School of Design, the Rhode Island Historical Society and Brown University. The Nineteenth Century brought together artists, collectors and institutions that fostered an art culture recognized nationally and internationally.
