HUDSON, N.Y. — On July 16, Public Sale Auction House will hold a curated auction titled “Forgotten Summer,” which will include a wide-ranging collection of antiques, art and accessories. This auction will feature the estate of the late, local antiques dealer Joan Evans, furnishings from the home of the well-known interior decorator Kathryn Scott, and a curated collection of vintage clothing.
The majority of the pieces from the Scott estate can be found on the pages of her book, Creating Beauty, published by Rizzolli. Highlights from the auction that can be found in this book include an antique opium bed and a classic art nouveau daybed. Also included is a large, detailed Nineteenth Century corner cupboard with a blue interior, and several other pieces which remained in her personal collection for many years.
The estate of the late Hudson-based antiques dealer Joan Evans, who for many years exhibited her goods at Stella’s Pier Shows and the Armory Antiques show in New York, will also be represented in this auction. Joan had impeccable taste; a fact made apparent by her home decorating. Her home contained several items which will be highlights in Forgotten Summer, including cupboards, a Shaker basket, gilt mirrors and more.
A number of small collections will round out the auction. Included in these are a dozen or more pieces of architectural copper remnants, including scarce ones like cornices and spires, and taxidermy pieces from a local collector, including a case of squirrels playing poker, and birds under domes. The auction will end with a hand selected group of vintage clothing, including car club jackets and Nineteenth Century lace dresses.
With a remarkably varied, eclectic and curated collection, this auction has something for almost everyone, including rugs, lamps, chandeliers, display cases, chairs, primitive farm tables and much more.
Two of this auction’s most unique items were once included in now vintage auction catalogs from Christie’s and Sotheby’s. One such item is a quilt from Andy Warhol’s collection which sold at Sotheby’s in 1988, and the other is a gilt-metal floral decorated bicycle from The Rocky Horror Show which sold at Christie’s in 1990.
Public Sale’s Forgotten Summer auction will be held online-only at noon on July 16, with an in-person preview, July 9-16, from 10 am to 5 pm at 90 Green Street. Public Sale will accept absentee bids and phone bids for this auction. Listing photos can be viewed at publicsale.com.
