PREVIEW: Aug 27 to Sept 3rd
HUDSON, N.Y. — On September 3, Public Sale Auction House will conduct an online auction titled Wisdom of the House, featuring items from the Claverack, N.Y., estate of the contemporary artist Mikhail Chemiakin, alongside a wide array of antiques, including art, mirrors, rugs and furniture.
Highlights from Chemaikin’s estate include work tables, easels and palettes, which he used in the creation of his art, as well as large store counters and tables. Chemiakin is a collector of many things, including metal slag, a byproduct of the smelting process. He hand-selected pieces of slag, used them in his art, and hung them on the walls of one of the buildings on his property. More than 50 lots of this metal slag can be found in Public Sale’s upcoming auction. In addition to the slag, Chemiakin accumulated a collection of industrial toy/doll molds, which he used for inspiration in some of his art — 70 lots of which have found their way into this auction.
Other highlights from the Chemiakin property include a pair of carved stone Seventeenth Century foo dogs, a group of terracotta oil pots and a collection of 24 Turkish sink basins.
Public Sale’s Wisdom of the House auction will include a gathering of garden-related antiques, including large wood and copper planters, a small group of Willy Guhl planters and a one-of-a-kind seashell-decorated bird bath, as well as architectural items, including several cast iron lamp posts, a pair of stained glass windows, butcher hook, and a pair of arched fan windows. Industrial furniture, including benches, coat racks and a handful of multidrawer cabinets will be on offer as well.
Wisdom of the House is not devoid of traditional antiques as exemplified by a pair of floor-to-ceiling Eighteenth Century neoclassical Italian mirrors and more than 15 Oriental rugs. Additionally, chairs of all shapes and sizes, in both upholstered and unupholstered form, a windowed Victorian bird cage, a number of antique cabinets, benches, pillows, table and other varied items can be found in Public Sale’s latest auction catalog.
Public Sale’s Wisdom of the House auction will start at noon on September 3 with an in-person preview from August 27 to September 3 from 10 am to 5 pm at 90 Green Street. Public Sale will accept absentee and phone bids for this auction. For more information, www.publicsale.com or 518-966-7253.
