WOODBURY, CONN. — Schwenke Auctioneers marks the return to its original location at 50 Main Street North in Woodbury with an estates auction being conducted at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, October 18. The sale of more than 350 lots is a live-streamed online sale offering live bidding on LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable and Bidsquare, with absentee and phone bidding in-house. Preview times are Saturday and Sunday before the sale from 10 am to 5 pm. Preview is also available at other times by appointment.
The auction features property from several estates and includes Midcentury Modern furniture from the estate of Adolph S. Cavallo, a former museum curator and author of numerous books on early textiles and tapestries; English furniture and decorations from a Greenwich, Conn., estate, including Eighteenth Century and Nineteenth Century items attributed to Gillows from the design book of Thomas Chippendale; decorative arts, including an early maritime framed woolwork and an oil on canvas of Santa Barbara, Calif., by William A. Patty from a collector in Litchfield, Conn.; items from a New Canaan, Conn., estate, including a rare and unique English campaign metamorphic game table; sterling silver from Danbury and Middlebury, Conn., collections; a group of Flora Danica porcelain wares from a European collector; and Nineteenth Century furniture and decorations from a Brooklyn Heights brownstone, including a large-scale Adam-style carved and gilded neoclassical overmantel mirror.
Also included is Tiffany jewelry from a Connecticut collector; a bronze perpetual calendar mantel clock from a Westchester, N.Y., collector; a Georgian slant front desk from a Newtown, Conn., collector; a portrait of a boy possibly by Charles Hawthorne from a Connecticut collector; a Baltimore federal linen press from a West Coast collector; a group of Continental artworks and decorative arts from a New York City collector, including an African Kuba bwoom royalty mask; a group of artworks from another Westchester County, N.Y., collector, including a James Wingate Parr oil on canvas “Beached Trap Boats” previously from the State Street Bank corporate collection; decorations and fine art from a Connecticut collector, including a pair of Jens Rison MCM lounge chairs and a Knoll tulip table.
Also available are several lots of silver from a Madison, Conn., estate, including a Tiffany sterling footed bowl; a substantial grouping of fine and decorative arts from a New London, Conn., collector, including a Woodard MCM tubular brass and leather rocking chair, an early Continental embroidered chasuble vestment and a Curtis Hanson oil on canvas pastoral scene; a group of vintage decorations from a Washington, Conn., collector, including a Lladro porcelain touring car; more than 30 artworks from a New Jersey collector; and a Tiffany sterling Provence pattern flatware service for 12 from a Woodbury estate.
