BEVERLY, MASS. — Kaminski Auctions announces its fall auction schedule beginning with a two-day auction Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25, starting at 11 am Eastern time at the firm’s auction gallery.
American art abounds in this auction with a William Sergeant Kendall (American, 1869-1938) work titled “Prayer for St Ives,” oil on canvas, signed and dated 1890, leading the way. There is also a painting by William McGregor Paxton (American, 1869-1941) titled “Nude Woman,” signed and dated 1979, and a portrait by the Massachusetts artist Marguerite Pearson of a woman beside a staircase, among the top valued lots in the fine art category.
Additionally, there is a view of Boston by Robert Salmon, an oil on panel, a barn at sunset in South Hero, Vt., by Robert Cardinal (American, b 1936) and a Gordon Hope Grant (1875-1962) landscape titled “Boats in the Marsh, possibly Essex, Mass., circa 1940.
European art highlights include a painting by Theodore Alexander Weber (1838-1907), “Dutch Sailing Scene,” oil on canvas, signed “Th Weber,” and a Nineteenth Century oil on canvas painting titled “The Engagement,” signed C. Remerlein.
A notable entry in the art category is a map, Map of the Most Inhabited Part of New England. A hand-colored engraving by the German engraver Lucas Voch (Eighteenth Century), it was initially published in Augsburg in 1777.
An English Regency-style mahogany banquet table with a satinwood inlaid top and two leaves, a set of 13 English Regency mahogany chairs and a pair of Queen Anne-style matching demilune cabinets are among the top valued furniture lots in the sale. Victorian furniture features an inlaid table with carved quatrefoil decoration and a Victorian hutch with an inlaid design of a musical motif. There is also an early Nineteenth Century Russian/French settee with ormolu mounts and striped upholstery.
An abstract painting attributed to Cesar Domela (1900-1993) and dated 1979 features in the contemporary art category. Domela began painting in his early 20s in the Netherlands and Paris and counted Mondrian as a close friend and influence.
There is also a set of six Tucroma leather chairs by the Italian designer Guido Faleschini for Pace Furniture, circa 1970. The jewelry in the sale features an 18K yellow gold and diamond bracelet with two sapphires; a 14K yellow gold bracelet with three coins, including an 1881 $5 Liberty/Coronet head (6.85 grams), a 1910 $5 Indian Head (8.36 grams), and a 1959 Mexican peso coin; and a graduated South Sea pearl necklace with 18K yellow gold clasp.
Sterling silver on offer features a Towle sterling Old Lace pattern flatware service for 12 and a Gorham Plymouth pattern sterling tea and coffee five-piece set with matching plated tray.
A set of Hermes Le Jardin de Pythagore pattern dinnerware and serving pieces is of particular interest.
Preview hours will be conducted Monday-Friday, September 19-23, 9 am to 5 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am. The preview is open while the auction is live.
