PROVINCETOWN, MASS. — James R. Bakker Antiques will conduct its annual fall live online fine arts auction on Saturday, October 8, at 1 pm. Masterworks from the Provincetown Art Colony being offered to the highest bidders include “Fox in the Dunes,” an oil by Ross Moffett ($4/6,000) and “Forest Brook,” a watercolor by Karl Knaths ($2/3,000). A selection of works by Joseph Alexander, Charles Courtney Allen, Reynolds Beal, Robert Bliss, Arthur Cohen, Morris Davidson, Laszlo DeNagy, Arthur Diehl, John Hare, Charles Heinz, William Littlefield, Ray Nolin, Vollian Rann, Alvin Ross, George Swanson, Tony Vevers and Harold Walker will be offered, as will contemporary paintings and drawings by Sam Barber, Paul Bowen, Mark Beard, John Clayton and Rob DuToit, among others.
“Provincetown” by Jane Gage ($3/5,000) and “Public Gardens, Boston” by Nancy Whorf ($3/5,000), one of several works by Whorf from New England and local private collections, lead a selection of women artists in this sale. Paintings and watercolors by other women artists include Evelin Bourne, Loretta Feeney, Dorothy Lake Gregory, Hilda Neily, Helen Sawyer, Nora Speyer, Tabitha Vevers and Ferol Warthen.
“For the Young Artist,” a color silkscreen by James Rosenquist ($2/3,000) and “The Mastaba: 1240 Oil Barrels,” a grain litho and silkscreen by Christo and Jeanne-Claude ($4/6,000) highlight the print offerings. A collection of white-line woodblock prints by Sally Brophy, Ed Crane, William Evaul, Ruth Hogan and Kathryn Lee Smith should also generate interest among print collectors. An assortment of etchings and aquatints by William Bicknell, Morgan Dennis, Albert Edel and Paul Resika, among others, will be offered. A bronze lamp by William Boogar and a Taro Yamamoto mural round out the sale with something for everyone.
