BEACON, N.Y. — Hudson Valley Auctioneers will present a 450-lot unreserved antiques and estate auction with absentee, phone and online bidding through Liveauctioneers.com on October 24 at an early start of 3 pm ET.
This sale begins with 20 paintings by Americo DiFranza from the estate collection of the artist. DiFranza, a career graphic designer and a master with pastel, later in life instructed at the Art Students League. From a large Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn estate come several paintings, several French-style salon sofas and chairs, a bronze mounted abattant, bronzes and Chinese and Japanese items. Chinese material includes several rosewood marble top tables, many pieces of porcelain, including plaques, a pair of military rank badges, jades and a carved polychrome Buddha. Pieces of Satsuma pottery, watercolors and woodblocks were also part of the collection.
Bronzes include a large Picault L’escholier, a large Barbedienne Roman man, two by Hazel Brill Jackson, a meerkat and a Roman on horseback and a modern five-part burnished bronze series by Aharon Bezalel, among others. The art from Brooklyn and other estates features a signed Jasper Johns litho coat hanger, 1960; oils by J. Machard, C. Jacque, W. Perry, Dutzschold, F.L. Martin, L. Burger, G. Kraus, Vestie Davis, F. Gommes, Clyde Wood, Harry Gottleib and two by Chaim Goldberg, among others.
Eighteenth, Nineteenth and Twentieth Century furniture examples are scattered throughout the sale and include several oak pieces, a Harvard Nineteenth Century dental cabinet, several glass front cabinets and a large gilt pier mirror. There will be midcentury examples: six Eames Eiffel Tower chairs, a Paul McCobb cabinet, eight Steelcase chairs, a Joe Columbo utility cart, Eames office chair, a pair of BBB Sissi Italian leather chairs, a pair of chrome and black Barcelona lounge chairs and a Geiger Brickel sofa.
Midcentury garden material includes a Woodard set, six chairs and a table with a matching sofa. Other garden lots feature a three-quarter life size-carved limestone classical girl, possibly Eighteenth Century, signed with some damage; Victorian iron urns; a wrought iron dining table; and a cast stone standing griffin and sundial.
There will be several china services, including Lenox Columbia, Wedgwood Florentine, Haviland Limoges Cathay; five cast glass Daum autos; an offering of Waterford glass; and various other porcelains and glass from various estates offered. Chinese and Persian rugs, a collection of Russian enameled boxes, a Louis Icart “Sleeping Beauty,” an alabaster bust and pedestal, a gilt spelter French clock, a Durham Tobacco advertising gingerbread clock and a Regina disk player are a other items of interest.
Further collections include 20 lots of Native American silver and turquoise, William Spratling, Norwegian sterling and enamel pieces and other estate jewelry; 20 lots of vintage and interesting clothing and accessories along with couture and several furs; a large collection of 1930s/40s plaster figural lamps, sconces and chandeliers; and a collection of vintage toys, dolls, metal automobiles, such as X-91 Futura, Non Fall Moon Rocket, Japanese friction and non-friction toys, a 1954 Gilbert Master building set and a rare hand made toy train; and also a large toy steam engine collection, including models by Steem, Fleischman, Jensen, Marklin, Weedon, Eiwi, parts and pieces.
