John C. C. Sanders Autograph Letter Signed (“J. C. C. Sanders”) on the Battle of Gettysburg. Three pages of a bifolium, 7.625” x 9.625”, Winchester, Virginia; July 21, 1863. Fascinating letter addressed to his father. It was penned while Sanders was convalescing from the gunshot wound to the knee that he received during the battle.

A retained draft of a letter from Major General John Thomas to General George Washington providing an update on his journey from Roxbury, Massachusetts to Quebec, Canada, to take charge of the American force there and passing on intelligence reports of inadequate American troop strength. A tersely worded letter addressed to “His Excy President [Joseph] Reed” of Pennsylvania, expressing Congress’s concern over the lack of supplies at the winter encampment at Morristown. Legal summons addressed to the sheriff of New Haven County, ordering Lemuel Nichols of Waterbury to appear before the county court to answer a charge of Joseph Adams concerning an outstanding debt of £10. William T. Sherman Autograph Letter Signed (“W. Sherman”). Four pages of a bifolium, “Camp 5th Divn.” Moscow, Tennessee; July 13, 1862. Addressed to Phil[emon Ewing], a fantastic lengthy letter in which Sherman updates his foster brother of his many activities since the Battle of Corinth, discussing the destruction of railroads, the numerical advantage of the enemy’s cavalry, and McClellan’s “risky” movement, which is presumably a reference to the Seven Days Battles. Jefferson Davis Letter Signed (“Jefferson Davis”) as President of the Confederate States of America. Four pages of a bifolium, “Executive Office” Richmond, Virginia; November 26, 1862. A circular addressed to Z. B. Vance, governor of North Carolina, seeking the States’ aid to reinforce the Confederate Army.
