PROVINCETOWN, MASS. — James R. Bakker Antiques will conduct its holiday live online fine arts auction on Saturday, November 26, starting at 1 pm. This auction features artworks from local estates and several prominent Provincetown and Cape Cod collectors. Leading the sale is “Ansley,” a 1928 portrait by Edwin Dickinson ($20/30,000) and “Cannery Wharf” by Gerrit Beneker painted in 1920 ($10/15,000).
Other masterworks from the Provincetown Art Colony offered to the highest bidders include “Dunes” and “Autumn Dunes,” two oil paintings by Ross Moffett ($5/7,000) each. Works by John Alexander, Arthur Cohen, William Draper, Nanno de Groot, Gerrit Hondius, Michael Mazur, Haynes Ownby and Ray Nolin will be offered as well as a selection of works by contemporary Provincetown painters, including Sam Barber and Salvatore Del Deo.
The selection of works by women artists features “Provincetown” by Anne Packard ($7/9,000) and “Reading in the Garden” by Margery Ryerson ($2/3,000). Other works by women artists associated with the Provincetown Art Colony include ones by Dorothy Lake Gregory, Margaret Patterson, Lillian Orlowsky, Ada Rayner and Nancy Whorf.
“A Squid Fisherman,” a color linocut print by Tod Lindenmuth, and other white-line woodblock prints by William Evaul, Kathryn Lee Smith and Ferol Warthen are just a few of the print highlights. Several bronzes by William Boogar and two original works painted by Peter Hunt round out the sale with something for everyone.
