NEW YORK CITY — Antiques lovers from all over the United States and the world, for three days, January 27-29, will be able to browse and shop the third annual New York Antiques Show online at the virtual show platform developed by www.getmansvirtual.com. Customers will be able to view and purchase the wares of more than 50 dealers from 16 states plus three Canadian provinces by going to www.nyantiqueshow.com.
Exhibitors have been chosen by a committee for the quality and variety of their material, as well as their ability to offer things in a variety of price ranges, relevant to today’s markets. The idea is to celebrate the “vibe” of the great old New York “pier” shows, where there was something for everyone, in every price range. Collectors will be able to shop some of the dealers who were regulars at these events, as well as some dealers who are brand new to the New York market.
“This is a chance to recreate the fun of the good old New York shows we all loved, but without the snow, ice and the traffic,” said show promoter Marvin Getman. “Now you can shop the show while staying cozy in your living room!” The show will stay online from noon Eastern Friday, January 27, and continue through Sunday, January 29, at 8 pm Eastern. Admission is free and shoppers will be able to browse by key word, category, by their favorite dealers or simply browse through the show as if in person, using the robust search engine. More than 1,000 items are expected to be posted by showtime. Unlike live shows, no one has access to the items before the show opens. To receive update email reminders before the show, go to www.nyantiqueshow.com and sign up.
The platform was designed at the beginning of the pandemic to emulate the experience of walking through a live show booth by booth. In collaboration with a South African firm, the platform was initially launched for a series of Getman’s monthly antiquarian book fairs. It was customized successfully for the fall Fox Valley Online Antiques Show (hosted by the Chicago Suburban Antiques Dealers Association) which has run three successful online shows on the platform.
Of that experience, New Brunswick dealer Cathy Consentino wrote, “I liked having people, who are doubtful about anything involving a computer, call me just bouncing over the fun they had shopping this show. No parking or slushing thru snow, waiting in line, lugging bags or boxes, forgetting where you put your coat, or in which booth you left your check book. The NYC show is fun and easy.” And Connecticut and Florida dealer Ed Holden wrote, “This online platform does the best job to date of creating the feeling and experience of a live show for both the customer and the dealer
After New York, the next Getman virtual antiques show will be the 65th Spring Fox Valley Online Antiques Show March 11-12. For information, info@virtualantiqueshows.com.
