BEACON, N.Y. — Hudson Valley Auctioneers will present an unreserved antiques and estate auction with absentee, phone and online bidding through www.liveauctioneers.com on February 13 at an early start of 3 pm EST. The sale includes several estates and partial estates, primarily the midtown Manhattan estate of the daughter of a long-closed Madison Avenue art gallery, an expert in South American art. Many items in the sale were purchased from New York City galleries in the early 1980s.
Artists represented in the sale include Georges Leroux, Boscagli, Everett Shinn, Victoria Dubourg, Carles Vickey, P. Bertieri, Edward Detaille, Georges Lepape, Frederick Taubes, Valentine Hugo, Raphael P. Barradas, Andre Marty, Rube Goldberg, Louis Boilly, Estaban Garino, Henri Pierre, Franz Kline, Vernon Bailey, David Lax, Arthur Coppedge, Pal Fried, Pierre Bertandi, A. Point, Carlos Gomez Fernandez, Zito Quendo, Frans Masereel, Harari, Nick Hansen, Max Liebermann, Icart and Goya, among others.
Bronzes include works by Pablo Serrano, Juan Leon Zorilla, Alexis Rudier, Alfredo Pina, Enrico Caruso and Ruth Levine, as well as many antique and unsigned pieces.
A selection of Nineteenth Century bronze decorative items, chandeliers and sconces are scattered throughout the sale. Among the Asian items are a set of bronze elephant opium weights and a collection of miniature bronze deity fragments.
Eighteenth, Nineteenth and Twentieth Century furniture pieces are diverse in a selection of barristers and file cabinets to American country, a rare Thonet recliner, a Gustave Stickley rocker, MCM teak furniture, and bedroom and dining room furniture. Silver and jewels include a few hundred ounces sterling flatware and hollowware, several gold bracelets and a continuation of the large estate collection of Native American silver and turquoise pieces, including old pawn.
A large selection of US commemorative gold and silver coins are also offered, most in large lots.
Several china sets, Persian carpets, vintage beaded and designer handbags, decorated stoneware, duck decoys, including several by both Stanley Cichowsky and Bob Jones, Charles Birdsall, Keith Mueller and others, an extensive collection of vintage Steiff teddy bears and animals, vintage dolls and various other country lots blend throughout the sale. Dollmaker Jane Cather created the remarkable “Class of 86” group of handmade cloth dolls that will be sold as one lot.
Other standouts in the 550-lot sale are an Ed Moulthrop “Negundo” bowl, a 1934 Panama Digger Model “A” penny arcade machine in unrestored condition, a brass National candy store register, a rare Blick “Featherweight” typewriter, a Jon Kuhn carved glass vase, a labeled John Appleton lightship basket, two Jauquet folk art carvings, a large Gregg Hessel Studios collection of copper candlesticks and a Nineteenth Century copper and zinc trotter and sulky weathervane in original gilt.
In-house previews are Sunday, February 12, from 1 to 5 pm and Monday from noon to 2:30 pm or by appointment after February 6.
