BRISTOL, CONN. — Tim’s Annual Cabin Fever Multi Estate Extravaganza is marking its 31st year. In the course of a year Tim Chapulis meets with multiple families, estates and collectors and convinces them to join this special auction. The auction will be conducted on Sunday, February 26, at 2 pm EST. This is an online auction but will have limited seating at the auction house.
This year’s auction features special one-of-a-kind offerings from a direct heir of Norman Rockwell and his wife Molly Rockwell, including a leather bound book of some recollections of their lives from 1961 through 1969. Two of the photos in the recollections book are of former president of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito with the Rockwells and a photo at Cape Kennedy with Joe Schmidt, space suit technician, N.R. Young and Virgil “Gus” Grissom. These photos were taken while Rockwell and his wife traveled while on assignments. There are 160 photos in the recollections book.
Also in this collection is a photo of Norman and Molly Rockwell standing in front of their home with their dog; it signed by both Norman and Molly. Two original prints drawn by Norman Rockwell, unsigned, will be offered. The family believes these were for a book. A pair of single period Sheraton beds, also owned by the Rockwells, will cross the block.
The collection of Gary Zuella will be featured in the auction. He had a very dear heart for the city of Waterbury, Conn., and over close to 45 years he would travel and attend auctions and antiques shows and bring back to his hometown collection items that were sold or made in the Waterbury area. Included are Waterbury postcards, maps, paper memorabilia, books, framed photos of downtown Waterbury and the surrounding area, circa 1800s through early 1900s, including the James Elton home, Frederick Kingsbury home, Benedict Miller home, Chase family “Rose Hill” and more. Zuella also attended Tim’s auctions and purchased items. One of the highlights he purchased in 1986 was a Hoadley clock made in Plymouth, Conn. This clock was in the home of Edson Cleveland, owner of Cleveland’s Country Store in Plymouth and remained there for well over 125 years.
Featured from his collection are cast iron jockeys with mostly original untouched paint. Two bronze bells, circa 1871 and 1902, were purchased from Johnsonville, Conn., when the town was broken up. Both bells are complete with original holders; one bell has been refurbished.
