PHILADELPHIA — Kamelot Auctions will kick off a week of Modern sales on Wednesday and Thursday, February 22-23, with back-to-back design, French, Italian and American sales.
Following the two Modern sales, Kamelot will host two automated sales through LiveAuctioneers: the Continental, Modern and architectural sale will begin at 7 pm on February 23 and will be followed by Kamelot’s Reflect and Rediscover sale on Saturday, February 25 beginning at 1 pm.
The Modern sales are host to many beloved designers and styles alike. Day one features a two-part skyscraper bookcase after Paul Frankl in cerused and painted oak ($1,2/1,800). Sleek and trendy pieces include a pair of tinted oak drinks tables on ebonized bases ($700/900). A two-part, restored L sofa, circa 1950, has an estimate of $1/1,500. Eye-catching Art Deco pieces can be found throughout the sales with a decorated French walnut and brass sideboard attributed to Charles Dudouyt, circa 1945, having an estimate of $1,5/2,500.
Kamelot is offering a one-of-a-kind Modern artist-made mica and gilt resin mirror ($1/1,500). And a “Mesa” mahogany coffee table in the manner of T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings has an estimate of $4/6,000.
Day two of Kamelot’s Modern sales boasts a variety of unique furniture and decorative pieces to create gorgeous living spaces. To brighten up one’s walls with the selection of fine artwork Kamelot will offer an acrylic painting by Joseph Amarotico (American, 1931-1985) aptly titled “Architectural Fantasy.” This painting, with its smooth lines and bold color is estimated at $300/500. Pretty in pink, a two-door lacquered cabinet labeled Capellini is estimated $400/600. A glass and brass nine-light chandelier by Sciolari features rainbow-tinted prisms ($1/1,500). Starting the sale off strong, a French macassar ebony and inlaid four-door sideboard with sycamore interior, circa 1960, is estimated $1,2/1,800. Adding some gloss and shine to one’s dining space is a set of four French steel and faux ostrich chairs with curved backs, circa 1980 ($800-$1,200).
The auction house will be open for preview by appointment through February 17, weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm.
