BEVERLY, MASS. — Kaminski Auctions will host a three-day auction on March 3, 4 and 5 at its auction gallery starting at 11 am EST. The auction features the collection of longtime antiques dealers Lila and Warren Green of Ashland, Mass. On Sunday, March 5, Kaminski will offer their collection of primitive and naive paintings, vintage game boards and country furniture.
Friday and Saturday include decorative home furnishings, furniture and art from various New England and Palm Beach, Fla., collections. There is also a unique collection of English royalty commemorative tins, china, glass and books from a Swampscott, Mass., estate.
Lila and Warren Green’s love and passion for collecting antiques grew into a thriving antiques business. They were well known throughout the New England dealer community and were regular exhibitors at Brimfield and other local shows. For decades they collected and sold vintage advertising, primitive and naive paintings, country-painted furniture and vintage game boards. Lila taught evening classes on antiques at the Danforth Art Museum, now part of Framingham State University, and was a well-known interior decorator in Boston. Highlights of their collection include paint-decorated cupboards from their Ashland home, vintage checker and game boards, Monopoly and Mickey Mouse, and an extensive selection of naive artwork.
Friday and Saturday, March 3-4, the focus will be on decorative items for the home, including a painting by John Terelak (b 1942) titled “Lifting Fog Gloucester Harbor.” The oil on canvas measures 30 by 30 inches in a custom giltwood frame. There is also an autumn landscape, oil on canvas, signed and attributed to George Inness (American, 1825-1894) and a watercolor pastel titled “Winter Snow” by Alfred Lee. Fine art continues with a Hilary H. Holmes signed portrait of a young child, oil on canvas, dated 1992, and an Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) copper plate engraving dated 1894 of “Le Chapeau Epingle” (The Hat Secured with a Pin.) Sculpture in the sale includes a Pierre Lenordez (French, 1815-1892) bronze on a marble plinth titled “Salto al Guado” (Leap to the Ford.)
An early Nineteenth Century Sheraton three-part mahogany table with reeded legs that seats 14 kicks off the furniture offerings. There is also an early Georgian mahogany breakfront with a glass-fronted top, a Nineteenth Century English sofa table with drop leaves of mahogany, rosewood and satinwood, having inlay and stamped Morrow, and a Twentieth Century mahogany four-poster bed with skirt nailings.
Continental furniture includes an antique Venetian hand-painted secretary desk, Italian gold-painted wrought iron tables with glass tops after Gilbert Poillerat (French, 1908-1988), labeled Orentia Italy, a designer set of Italian gold-decorated wrought iron chairs and a pair of malachite columns.
From a local collection comes a selection of Danish modern furniture, including a tall clock with battery movement in teak wood, a set of four modern dining chairs marked Vamdrup Stolefabrik, and a modular wall unit labeled Sejling Skabe. There is also a modern Danish queen-size bed with storage under the bed and a wall-mounted lamp fixture.
