PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Bert Gallery will present its spring 2023 Studio Sale on Tuesday, March 14, on LiveAuctioneers with a dedicated artwork online auction.

The Bert Gallery Studio Sale #3 expands its focus to include a Modernist section. Modernist works join the popular regional artists Bert Gallery has championed for more than 35 years — the overlooked regional art contributors to the major movements and styles in American art.

The Modernist section includes more than 25 lots dedicated to nationally acclaimed artists, such as Dale Chihuly, photographer Aaron Siskind, Brown University scion Walter Feldman and other artists who embraced the postwar Modernist art world. Rhode Island School of Design was a creative nexus that brought innovators like glass artist Chihuly, who set up the glass department at RISD and progressive photographer Aaron Siskind. One of the major highlights in the auction is a large Chihuly vintage 1985 Macchia bowl, a Siskind 1967 abstract and rare Siskind 1965 Games Theater photograph from the collection of internationally known graphic designer Malcolm Grear. Yale graduate Walter Feldman contributes to the sale with two 1950s woodcuts inspired by Yale mentors Josef Albers and Willem de Kooning and five Twentieth Century expressionist acrylic series from 2013 to 2016.

The other half of the sale are historic American painters acquired by astute collectors in Providence, the home of several important American painters and active collectors in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Century. Some highlights include a Hudson River School gem, Nineteenth Century Venetian scene by Walter Francis Brown, an important Brooklyn Bridge pastel by F. Usher DeVoll, who was represented by New York’s Grand Central Gallery, Providence Art Club favorites George Hays and H.A. Dyer, along with the ever-popular Rockport Art Association artist Antonio Cirino with a trademark harbor scene.
