PROVINCETOWN, MASS. — James R. Bakker Antiques will conduct its spring live online fine arts auction on Saturday, March 18, starting at 1 pm. This auction features artworks from local estates and several prominent Provincetown and Cape Cod collectors.
Leading the sale is “Provincetown,” a 2008 Provincetown harbor scene by Arthur Cohen ($6/8,000) and “Morning Glories,” a color woodblock print by Margaret J. Patterson exhibited in the “Provincetown Print” exhibition at the Provincetown Art Association & Museum in 1996 ($3/5,000).
Other masterworks from the Provincetown Art Colony offered to the highest bidders include “Fields” by Henry Hensche and “The Willows” by Sol Wilson ($2/3,000 each).
Works by John Alexander, Maurice Burns, Nanno De Groot, Bruce McKain, Oscar Gieberich, Haynes Ownby and Ray Nolin will be offered, plus a selection of works by contemporary Provincetown painters, such as Paul Resika, Salvatore Del Deo, Paul Bowen and Robert Cardinal.
The strong selection of works by women artists features “Quorum” by Florence Brillinger ($2/3,000) exhibited in the 1938 “Modern Juried” exhibition at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
Other works by women artists associated with the Provincetown Art Colony include Dorothy Lake Gregory, Lucy L’Engle, Dorothy Loeb, Hilda Neily, Anne Packard, Ada Rayner and Nancy Whorf.
A few of the prints highlights include “Join the Navy,” a vintage World War I poster by Richard Fayerweather Babcock ($1,5/2,000) and prints by William Bicknell and others. Two bronzes by William Boogar, a photograph by Don Herron and five lots of art reference books from the library of the estate of Frank Hogan round out the sale with something for everyone.
