NEW YORK CITY and NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS — When Asia Week New York opens on March 16, Lark Mason Associates will offer up a trio of sales on iGavelAuctions.com, the likes of which are certain to attract competitive bidding from museum curators, collectors and connoisseurs of all persuasions. Though all three sales offer significant lots, the pièce de résistance is property from an American collector, Part II.
“A private, single-owner collection of this magnitude and importance has not appeared at auction in many years,” said Lark Mason. “The sale includes magnificent traditional Chinese court robes and rare examples from many other cultures.”
The sale, which runs March 14-30, consists of more than 65 Chinese silk robes, including an Eighteenth Century Chinese imperial brown embroidered silk semi-formal dragon robe Jifu, ($30/50,000); a Nineteenth Century Chinese dark blue brocade theater robe with kesi and embroidered silk details ($10/20,000); a Dowager Empress New Year semiformal court robe, Qipao, circa 1880 ($800-$1,200); two pairs of Nineteenth Century Korean silk civil official rank badges ($2/3,000); and two Japanese stenciled noh robes (each $800-$1,200). Also included is a rare Chinese kesi silk calligraphic scroll, dating to the Qianlong period, modeled after Dong Qichang’s Xingshu running script calligraphy.
Running through March 21 is Asian works of art from the collection of the Dayton Art Institute featuring a Qing dynasty Chinese amber figure of Shoulao ($1,2/1,500) and a pair of Chinese carved celadon jade horses with fitted stands ($1,5/2,500).
Rounding out the trio of sales is Chinese and other Asian works of art, which runs from March 28 through April 18. Among the lots are a Chinese pale celadon jade ewer ($40/60,000); an Eighteenth Century Chinese celadon and green jade cylindrical parfumier ($2/4,000) and a Qing dynasty Chinese silver and gold inlaid bronze fanghu archaistic vessel ($4/6,000).
