BEACON, N.Y. — Hudson Valley Auctioneers will present an unreserved antiques and estate auction with absentee, phone and online bidding through Liveauctioneers.com on Monday, April 3, at an early start of 3 pm Eastern time. The sale includes several estates and partial estates, primarily the estates of Alvin Mann, Billy Joe Padgett and Cusie Pfeifer. Several partial estates contributed as well as a packed Connecticut hay barn of a longtime dealer and collector.
Furniture plays a major role in this sale, much more than in recent sales. A large offering of country pine furniture, some in paint, came from a former dealer’s home in Putnam Valley, N.Y. Several cupboards, dry sinks, sets of chairs, corner cabinets, a tiger maple chest on chest, various collections of smalls, crock, baskets, a pair of early portraits, Staffordshire figurines and other good lots are scattered throughout the sale.
In addition to the American country, the barn in Ridgefield, Conn., had a number of Nineteenth Century French and English pieces in dusty but fairly good condition. Other furniture of note is an assembled nine-piece Horner-style dining room, a three-piece hickory rustic parlor set and table and some Victorian wicker and several pieces from the Seventeenth Century ex collection Nicola D’Ascenzo.
Several large lots of costume jewelry, Native American and other jewelry and watches, including a large 18K Tiffany and Co diamond and pearl brooch will be sold along with a considerable amount of sterling flatware and hollowware.
Midcentury and more contemporary items, mostly from the Cusie estate, feature works by makers Paul McCobb, Jamie Young, Burton Freund, Marilyn Newman, Camer, Avner Zabari, John Corcoran, Lisa Waters, Nicholas Simile, Jonah Meyer, Dean Jackson, Clarke Olsen, Thom Phillips, Gregg Lipton and Richmond Johnston, among others.
A selection of Nineteenth Century bronze decorative items, chandeliers and sconces are scattered throughout the sale. Among the Asian items is a carved and lacquered Japanese cabinet, several carved Chinese marble top tables, porcelains, watercolors and other staples. Among the porcelains and glass is a set of dinner plates by Gilman Collamure and Co, a large Lundberg Studios art glass vase, two Mettlach steins and several large Lladro figurines.
Along with several offerings of contemporary photographers’ works, more traditional artworks are represented by the following artists; E.L. Henry, Karl Lehman, Carl Irmer, A.C, Schmidt, James Harrington, William Thompson, Leonard Ochtman, Donenneson and Millman. A one-owner collection of miniature oils are also in the sale.
Other items of interest that will surely be of interest include a selection of Huebbe wood and fiber originals, a vintage Honda motorcycle, a Winchester 10-gauge cannon, a Poule domed clock, an Atmos clock, an extra grade Columbia Grafonola, a Sky Chief enameled sign, two early Christian illustrated pages, a large collection of mid-1980s baseball cards and balls, a collection of Haitian artwork, an Emilio Pucci purse and a signed Jose Formoso Reyes Nantucket purse with ebony mounts.
In-house previews are Sunday, April 2, from 1 to 5 pm and Monday from noon to 2:30 pm or by appointment after March 27.
