BRANFORD, CONN. — New England Auctions will offer the collection of the late Lincoln Sander and his wife, Jean Sander, of Sandy Hook, Conn., on Thursday, September 21. Having been active dealers in the antiques business for decades, they were known for their integrity in the field of furniture and American antiques and for a curatorial eye towards what they chose to exhibit in national shows. They also applied that integrity towards what they lived with, amassing a varied personal collection. Lincoln was on the board of trustees of the Newtown Historical Society and was also the executive director of the Antiques Dealers’ Association of America for many years. Along with the Sanders’ items, the Noble collection of pewter will also be offered.

The sale comprises 446 lots, including American furniture, Delft, brass and metals, early accessories, needlework, Native American items and more. In the furniture department, a rare New England William and Mary chest over drawers in original red paint is among the highlights. A banister back armchair also stands out with a provenance of Katherine Prentice Murphy. In addition, an Eighteenth Century Connecticut tall clock by Ruben Ingraham, a Queen Anne tea table with carved apron and red paint and a rare Hudson Valley blue painted miniature blanket chest with ball feet round out the category. A pair of painted fire buckets commemorating George Washington will delight collectors. A William Will Philadelphia pewter sugar bowl, circa 1770, having a provenance of Melvin Wolf shines in the pewter collection.

This will be both a live auction and online auction presentation with previewing in-person beginning Monday, September 18.
