MONMOUTH JUNCTION, N.J. — Bodnar’s Auction is set to captivate comic book enthusiasts and art connoisseurs alike in an offering of the private comic art collection of filmmaker and comic aficionado Kevin Smith.

The auction will take place on online September 27, and is expected to be a historic occasion for the comic book community. Smith’s collection, meticulously curated over decades, features an array of rare artwork from iconic comic books and graphic novels. Each piece is a testament to the rich history and artistic brilliance of the medium, making this auction an opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire treasured works of art.

The collection boasts original artwork from beloved titles, such as Preacher, Hitman, The Demon, Batman, Green Arrow, Daredevil, Sandman and more, showcasing the talent of artists whose contributions have shaped the comic book industry. These one-of-a-kind pieces have been carefully preserved and cherished by Smith.
Several highlights include a collection of Smith’s Green Arrow cover art by Matt Wagner, including issues number 1-12 ($1,5/3,000 each). Dark Horse, Quick Stops Issue #2 in its entirely features both the final art with the preliminary pencils and inks. And the rarest piece will be a Frank Miller Daredevil Issue #161 Page #22, pencils by Miller, inker Klaus Janson ($20/40,000). All lots in the historical auction will come with COAs from Bodnar’s Auction and will be autographed by Kevin Smith.
Joe Bodnar, the auction house’s curator, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “ I am honored to be working together with Kevin to showcase his collection. Each piece of his collection is unique and beautiful. Personally, I am a Batman fan and the pages he has in this sale are all keepers,” Smith stated. “My current reduction in home wall space is going to make some ardent comic collectors’ dreams come true! Own original interior art or killer covers from my Daredevil and Green Arrow runs! Pick through classic comic book graphics I’ve collected over the years! This will be the sale of the century, and a percentage of our proceeds will go to a scholarship fund at the Joe Kubert School!” The Kubert School, formerly the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art and Joe Kubert School, is a private, technical school focused on cartooning located in Dover, N.J.

The sale will be broadcast live online on several platforms, including Bodnar’s Auction, LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable, Bidspirit and AuctionZip. Smith himself will be at the broadcast reminiscing and describing each lot it comes up for bid.
Bidders will have the opportunity to view the collection in person on September 26 in Monmouth Junction, by appointment only. Additionally, a comprehensive online catalog will be made available on www.bodnarsauction.com. All lots will start at $10 and will be offered with no reserves.
