PELHAM, N.H. — Legare Auctions has a diverse, timed, online estate auction on AuctionNinja that starts to close on Thursday, September 28 at 7 pm.
“This is an interesting and eclectic sale with items ranging from fine artwork, to great advertising, to vintage couture” said Leo Legare. “There’s some really nice estate artwork, including a J. Appleton Brown landscape, an 1874 view of Grews Hill in Hyde Park by John J. Enneking and a William Merritt Post fall landscape. Those are complemented by some brilliant World War I posters, an Audubon elephant folio and a large lot of graphically colorful Twentieth Century posters from Poland.
“With such an eclectic sale, it is hard to pick out the highlights,” Legare continued. “In that category would have to be a ship’s medicine box with bottles and drawer containing supplies and The Mariners Medical Guide. But with such a diverse sale, I would also say the diminutive grain-painted one-drawer blanket chest with cutout ends, the Rose Mandarin bowl with bronze fittings, the tin trolley friction toy in original paint and a charming folk art sperm whale weathervane in grey paint with nail teeth, stand out.”
There is a significant amount of advertising with an eye-catching tray from H.B. Staley Co. for Snowflake Beauty and V.A. Extra Flour featuring an adorable bulldog. Other advertising lots include a cardboard apothecary sign for Nervura Girl, a Daggetts Orangeade dispenser and a Hunts 3 Ring Circus framed broadside.
“When it comes to interesting and unusual items,” said Legare, “the 1934 Chevy, Deco-style phoenix bird hood ornament, the mourning artwork with hair decoration in a Victorian gesso oval shadow box, an Antonio Grediaga Kieff abstract bronze sculpture and the W.G. Haynes Civil War wool blanket embroidered with his initials are novel lots.”
Late additions to the sale include antique clothing from a historical institution that include a two-piece Victorian formal dress or wedding gown and large lots of umbrellas, parasols, hats and gloves.
