Viewing Chuck Walkers African American man in a snowstorm at Chicago, one can feel the cold winter winds and snow in the future. Pal Fried shows us weavers making baskets on a bright sunny day. Armin Buchterkirch’s “Sunset in the Bahamas” watercolor is full of wonderful evening sunset colors shimmering in the water. Palm trees give the painting scale against the vast ocean. Mario Segundo Perez, “El Bote,” has a fun evening bonfire on the beach with people fishing at the edge of the water and in a boat. The sky is full of stars.
There are a large number of illustrations from the Golden Book History of the United States by Alton S. Tobey.
Rookwood pottery has such graceful design. There is a great example of this in this auction. Henry B. Snell’s regatta shows a sloop crossing the finish line with a cannon going off to mark this event. There are many accomplished artist’s etchings and lithographs in this auction. Here are some of the artists: John Sloan, Isabel Bishop, Reginald Goodfellow, Luigi Lucioni, Anders Zorn, Jules Andre Smith, Giovanni Piranesi, Kerr Ebby, Samuel Palmer and many more.
