BEVERLY, MASS. — Robert “Bob” Eigelberger was a long-time Palm Beach resident known throughout the county as a successful architect, developer and preservationist of the “North End” of Palm Beach County.
In 1988, he was honored with a prestigious award from the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach for his work. He built luxury homes on a 22-acre property owned by his wife, Susie Phipps Cochran, whose family’s fortune came from steel, real estate holdings and horse breeding. The land was part of the Phipps family’s real estate holdings and was appropriately named the Phipps Estate.
He and his wife Suzy transformed a 6-acre tract into their own Mediterranean-style home named Casa Phippsberger and, with his interest in landscape architecture, transformed the parcel into a lush botanical paradise.
Kaminski Auctions will be offering the contents of his home, including ornaments from his garden and a vast antique majolica collection, on Saturday, November 25, first day of the firm’s two-day annual Thanksgiving auction, and Sunday, November 26, starting at 10 am.
Highlights of his collection include a Seventeenth Century Italian walnut library table, long table and credenza, Eighteenth Century Italian carved wooden figures, Russian icons, English Regency mahogany torchieres and a collection of antique majolica. Several early Twentieth Century Austrian Orientalist cold-painted bronze lamp/lighting fixtures on offer are attributed to Bergmann.
Day 2, Sunday, November 26, features the contents of a Lynnfield estate with all items to be sold in place. The Lynnfield estate features continental furniture and decorative arts and includes a Nineteenth Century French giltwood seven-piece parlor suite attributed to Linke of Paris. In addition, there is a pair of Nineteenth Century French console cabinets having marble tops with ormolu bronze mounts, a set of five French silverplate putti compotes with crystal bowls from the Le Crillon, Paris, a Steinway ebonized baby grand piano, model #551580, with Model M bench, an extensive collection of French gilt mirrors, and French clock and candelabra sets.
Other notable items include a Louis Vuitton tin inlaid trunk, model #842655, an antique child’s steam engine toy train, American, possibly New York, circa 1895, and two antique hand-colored world maps. All Lynnfield estate items can be seen by appointment the week prior to the sale by calling 978-927-2223. All lots will be sold in place and pickup will be from the Lynnfield location.
Asian items of interest include a set of four Qi Baishi (1864-1957) Chinese inkwash scroll paintings of shrimp, watercolor on paper, a Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) Chinese landscape scroll painting, watercolor on silk, both from a Marblehead collection, and a Seventeenth/Eighteenth Century Chinese blanc-de-chine Guanyin from a Beverly Hills, Calif., collector.
There is a large selection of jewelry, including several rings. The top lot is an emerald and diamond ring in 14K white gold, having 26 round brilliant cut diamonds and a Colombian pear-shaped emerald. There is also a platinum and marquise cut diamond ring, a pink sapphire and a ruby and diamond 18K pendant, to name a few of the pieces in the auction.
