MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — Just in time for holiday parties and celebrations, the Benefit Shop Foundation will be auctioning off a collection of more than 2,000 pieces of jewelry from the estate of a woman who adored jewelry as well as the arts and opera. The auction will take place on Wednesday, December 6, at 10 am and includes estate and costume jewelry.
Boasting bangles, brooches and baubles galore, the collection is a wide-ranging one with pieces to suit every occasion and every taste. It includes pieces by well-known designers and makers like Schreiner, Hattie Carnegie, Chanel, Miriam Haskell, Christian Lacroix, Florenza, Joseff of Hollywood, David Andersen Norway, Coro, Weiss, Hobe and Vendome.
“This is our third dedicated jewelry auction, and we are very excited to present this collection that is filled with glitz and glamor,” said Pam Stone, owner and founder of the Benefit Shop Foundation. “This auction offers a great opportunity to own a piece of jewelry from a truly unique collection, formed over decades by a woman with a keen eye for talent and quality. We have pieces by well-known designers as well as unsigned jewelry pieces that span the decades as well as the globe.”
The collector’s love of art is reflected in the jewelry she acquired during her lifetime, especially during the super hip 80s-90s spent in the Lower East Side of New York City buying clothes from new designers, cultivating relationships with jewelry makers and artists.
Highlighting the auction are a 1980s Chanel gold tone 26-segment medallion necklace; a Marlo Laz 10K gold “evil eye” quartzite, tourmaline and diamond ring; an 18K gold enameled snake brooch, marked Italy; and a Georg Jensen black diamond and onyx sterling silver ring.
Among a grouping of vintage Schreiner pieces will be a blue/purple crystal brooch and a matching pair of clip-on earrings; a white and rose gold-toned lucite decorated brooch with matching clip-on earrings and a blue crystal statement brooch with a faux baroque pearl pendant.
Also on offer are a vintage and sculptural Bjorn Weckstrom for Lapponia sterling silver statement ring with a lucite figural setting in the “Man in the Cosmos” design and a signed Tahitian pearl 14K gold topaz necklace.
Rounding out the auction will be a Hattie Carnegie glass beaded and faux pearl cameo multi-strand necklace, a pair of Iradj Moini Buddha aventurine and jasper earrings and a Matt Coriz spiny oyster and natural Tonapah green-toned turquoise beaded necklace.
The auction gallery is at 185 Kisco Avenue, Suite 201. For information, www.benefitshopfoundation.org or 914-864-0707.
