WINDSOR, CONN. — Nadeau’s Auction Gallery is excited to announce its annual New Year’s Day sales event starting at 10 am. The sale features merchandise from many estates, including the Gould Estate of Sutton Place, N.Y.; the estate of Dina Recanati of Fifth Avenue, NYC; a private collection from Beverly Hills, Calif.; a private collection from Fifth Avenue, NYC; a private collection designed by a NY City design firm Cullman & Kravis Inc.; a collection from Greenwich, Conn.; a private shoreline Conn., collection; and an estate from Long Island, N.Y., to name a few.
Gems, jewels and watches kick off this signature event in the most sparkling way.
An eye-popping diamond and platinum engagement ring, is estimated at $40/60,000 and features a D color, VS2, 4.88-carat pear-shaped brilliant diamond flanked by pear shaped diamonds. The ring is accompanied by its official GIA report. A Rolex Oyster chronograph pre-Daytona wristwatch, is estimated at $15/25,000. A Tiffany & Co 18K yellow gold brooch is estimated at $2,5/4,000.
This sale also features a sterling range of fine vintage to antique silver tabletop and decorative items. At the top of the category with a $25/35,000 estimate is a Georg Jensen nine-piece Blossom pattern sterling silver tea and coffee service that includes the tray, creamer, sugar bowl without cover, waste bowl and sugar tongs. A sterling silver covered tureen by S. Kirk and Sons, is estimated at $2/4,000. It is decorated entirely with repousse flowers and features a stag form finial.
Fine art and other important works — many with noteworthy provenance — are well represented in this highly anticipated sale.
Guy Carleton Wiggins’ (American, 1883-1962) “5th Avenue Winter Storm,” carries one of the highest estimates: $30/50,000. This framed, oil on canvas painting measures 24 by 20 inches and is signed by the artist on the lower left and verso. Joseph Zaritsky’s (Ukrainian/Israeli, 1891-1985) Untitled Red and Blue Abstract, is similarly estimated at $30/50,000. This framed oil on canvas work measures 60 by 58 inches and is from the estate of artist and sculpture Dina Recanati (Israeli, 1928-2021), who resided at 944 5th Avenue in New York City.
“Self Portrait #25 by Jack Pierson (American, b 1960) is estimated at $15/25,000. It retailed for $36,200 when New York City’s Leila Heller Gallery sold it on June 23, 2014. Rounding out fine art highlights would be Emile-Antoine Bourdelle’s (French, 1861-1929) “Main gauche du Grande Guerrier de Montauban (Left hand of the Great Warrior of Montauban),” a bronze work measuring 22½ inches high that is also from the Recanati estate and is estimated at $8/12,000.
Robust selections of decorative arts, furnishings and rugs, prints and fine antiques bridge traditional collecting categories.
The late Twentieth Century Russian group AES + F’s “Last Riot 2 – The Bridge,” a C-print on canvas previously sold at Sotheby’s and is estimated at $20/40,000. A Louis Vuitton steamer trunk that bears its original White Star Line label is estimated at $8/12,000. Similarly estimated and dated from the late Seventeenth Century is “Story of Rome,” a Flemish (Brussels) tapestry. The 104-by-125-inch piece resembles one of a set of five in Cotehele, Cornwall, and two others at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna..
“This annual sale is our company’s pride and joy,” says Eddie Nadeau, president of Nadeau’s Auction Gallery. “The 170 lots of art and works on paper represent the best collection of fine and contemporary art that Nadeau’s Auction Gallery has ever presented. The Guy Carleton Wiggins’ ‘5th Avenue Winter Storm’ is a personal favorite of mine and I love how you can experience the chill of the blizzard just by looking at it! Gavin Nadeau, the 12-year-old grandson of founder Ed Nadeau — and the youngest auctioneer in America — will be at the podium for some of this New Year’s Day sale, too. Prepare to be amazed on all fronts. Good luck to all our bidders!”
