Welcome to 2024. If fiction, children’s stories, history and art are your interests with several lots of ephemera and the unusual throw in for good measure then we promise you a most enjoyable Friday evening.
Signed 1st edition fiction includes: Styron (1967) “The Confessions of Nat Turner,” and (1979) “Sophie’s Choice,” Grisham (1992) “The Pelican Brief,” and (1995) “The Rainmaker,” Parker (2000) “Hugger Mugger,” and Higgins (1991) “The Eagle Has Flown,” to name a few.
There is an unsigned 1st UK edition of Hemingway’s “Old Man and the Sea,” a signed limited edition of Frost’s “Steeple Bush,” and we suspect a copy inscribed copy by Frost of “The Wood-Pile” issued by Spiral Press.
Lovers of children’s illustrated stories will appreciate the 1861 1st illustrated edition of Hans Christian Andersen “Danish Fairy Legends and Tales,” published by Bohn. Fans of Tomie dePaola will appreciate signed copies of (1996) “Strega Nona, Her Story,” and (2004) “Guess Who’s Coming to Santa’s for Dinner,” and there is Dillon’s (2003) “One Winter’s Night.” There is also an attractive group of the English children’s series “Joy Street” volumes 1 to 12 that was issued by Blackwell of London in the 1920s and 30s.
For students of history and exploration consider the following volumes: Young (1923) “The Founding of Utah,” Edwards (1897) “Memoirs of Col. William Edwards 1770 – 1851 written by Himself in his 76the Year 1847” Green (1892) “Diary kept by Capt. Lawrence Hammond of Charlestown Mass. 1674-1694,” Briggs (1936) “Around Cape Horn to Honolulu the Bark Amy Turner,” Limited edition of 150 copies, and Fanning (1833) “Voyages Round the World with Selected Sketch Voyages to the South Seas.” Or, consider this scarce copy of Shaw’s (1905) “Our Last Campaign and Subsequent Service in Texas.” All are 1st editions.
Rich in art, here are just a few of the volumes that are available: Bruce Weber copies of (2014) “Detroit Has Been Good To Me,” (2017) “Glory Be,” (2018) “Facing the World,” (2019) “No Small Thing Desire,” (2020) “Time Will Tell,” and (2022) “That Towering Feeling.” By Shuyei (1940), “Masterpieces of Japanese Art Vol. I Paintings,” and by Hillier (1976) there is the limited 3 volume edition of “Japanese Printsand Drawings from the Vever Collection.”
