Merrill’s Auctioneers and Appraisers is pleased to offer outstanding Early American & Country furniture and accessories from a Shelburne, VT estate, including a collection of Hudson River School paintings and flow blue china; deep blue Historical Staffordshire china, US gold coins & paper currency from a Burlington, VT collector’s estate; Furniture and Accessories from a Poultney, VT estate; as well as Oriental rugs, Paperweights, Glass, China, Silver, Jewelry, and accessories from area homes.
This sale features an important book of 20 large fish Ukiyo-e woodblock prints by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) intact with original cover boards and title pages descending from Captain Charles Augustus Ranlett (Maine 1804-1878) of the fast clipper ship “Surprise”, with note gifting it to him in 1860, three Vermont landscape oils on canvas by 19th c Burlington artist Charles Louis Heyde (1822-1889), and a rare ca 1856 redware jar with incised verse signed James Jones (likely Portland, ME). Also of note are several items descending in the family of J P Morgan Jr, including fine porcelain tableware bearing his monogram, an extensive collection of 19th c woodenware painted with winter scenes, and a good grouping of early Vermont stoneware.
