WHEELING, W.VA. — The Wilson Lodge at Oglebay Resort will be transformed into an antiques marketplace for Oglebay Institute’s (OI) 67th Annual Antiques Show and Sale on April 5-7. This annual event is the largest and longest-running antiques show in West Virginia and is among the oldest shows nationwide. More than 50 dealers from 10 states will participate in the show.
Browse thousands of items, including American, English, Primitive and period furniture. You’ll find American, folk, Western and midcentury art. Plenty of pottery, quilts, jewelry, rugs and baskets will be on display along with pewter, silver, glass, china, books and endless decorative items for both the period and modern home.
Christin Byrum, director of museums for OI, said only the most reputable dealers are invited, and buyers can be rest assured they are getting “the cream of the crop.” The show offers quality merchandise, a diverse inventory with items for every budget and programs that appeal to both experienced collectors and novice antiques buyers.
The OI show is not only a shopping experience but also a learning experience. Dealers share their knowledge with patrons. Special learning opportunities will take place throughout the weekend, including dealer booth talks, a guided show tour, glass tours and a children’s tour — all of which take place on Saturday.
During the show, you will have the opportunity to shake hands and converse with talkative experts who are passionate about antiques in general as well as their particular areas of interest.
Dealers will be available to answer questions and educate visitors about the history and significance of the items in the show.
The Antiques Show and Sale is also a social event — the cocktail party will be held at Oglebay Institute Glass Museum. Attendees will enjoy food, an open bar and will get to roam the museum’s 4,000 examples of historic Wheeling Glass. After the cocktail party, guests will be transported, in limousines, to Wilson Lodge where they will get a first peek at the show during the Dessert with Antiques Preview Party. At this event, there will be an enticing array of cakes, cookies, pies, candy and a cash bar. Patrons can attend both events for $75 or purchase tickets for the Dessert Preview Party only for $40. Ticket prices include admission to the show all weekend long.
To purchase tickets for the Friday night events, register online or call 304-242-7272. Tickets for the Dessert Party will also be available at the door.
The Dessert Preview Party is from 7 to 10 pm. General show hours are from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday. Admission to the show is $15. Special Antiques Show lodging packages are available at Wilson Lodge (877-436-1797).
