The auction will feature a variety of artworks, sterling silver, jewelry and watches, coins, antique and midcentury furniture, contemporary art glass, maritime medical chests and apothecary jars, country pieces, Chadburns London brass ships telegraph, single-owner collection of approximately 90 antique and vintage toys and banks (including Hubley, Buddy L, Sturditoy, Kingsbury, Arcade, Distler, Keystone and several Japanese Bandai), World War I and World War II memorabilia, single-owner 80-plus lot collection of Japanese netsuke and inro, vintage advertising signs, Oriental rugs and icons.
White’s will again offer a selection of approximately 20 rare antique telephones, including Blake transmitters, American Bell, Bell Telephone, long-distance transmitters, Brown’s telephone relay, Berliner transmitter, Charles Williams Jr, Telephone Bell, etc. Charles Williams Jr (b 1830) was a pioneer manufacturer of electrical telegraph instruments at 109 Court Street in Boston. Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas A. Watson experimented with the telephone in Williams’ shop, and it was there that they first heard indistinct sounds transmitted on June 2, 1875. Williams house in Somerville, Mass., is now a museum. It is strongly suggested that prospective bidders view items in person, if possible.
