PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — On April 13, Bray & Co. Auctions will present its inaugural Spring Discovery Sale. This online-only event will feature 182 lots of art, antiques and collectibles gathered from estates and private collections throughout New England.
Offerings will include a selection of country Americana, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century British and American maps, estate silver, clocks and automatons and a lifetime collection of antique coins and paper money.
Rounding out the sale is an assortment of local paintings, historical ephemera and photography, including the newly discovered Carroll Family Archive. Addison Sydney Carroll (1849-1925) was the Lead Ledgeman for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and is renowned for his pioneering work with controlled explosives, much of which is documented in his personal papers. Carroll’s most notable achievement is the blasting of Henderson’s Point from the Piscataqua River in 1905.
Bidding for this auction is online and absentee only. Preview is April 11-12 from 10 am to 5 pm or in advance by appointment.
