BEVERLY, MASS. — On Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14, Kaminski Auctions’ sale features the partial contents of a New Seabury, Cape Cod estate and the George Dallas estate from Burlington, Vt. Additionally, the auction house will present the collections of the late Robert Eilberger of Palm Beach, Fla.
Noteworthy in this auction is a southern Connecticut fine art collection. Moreover, collectors and history enthusiasts alike will be captivated by the inclusion of important historical documents signed by Presidents Lincoln, Jefferson and Madison, sourced from an estate in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass.
Kaminski will include several fine art pieces, including an Eric Sloane, N.A. (1905-1985) triptych oil on canvas titled “Learstar Jet in the Clouds,” which captures the imagination with its portrayal of aviation and atmospheric beauty ($20/30,000).
In addition to Sloane’s masterpiece, the auction will feature a diverse selection of artworks by renowned artists. Highlights include an oil on board titled “Signed Abercrombie ‘45 L/L,” depicting a woman in a striking red dress. Also featured is an oil on panel by Sabri Berkel (Turkish/Albanian, 1907-1993), signed and dated 1979, showcasing the artist’s mastery of composition and color.
Furthermore, collectors will have the opportunity to acquire works by Charles Ethan Porter (1847-1923), including a floral still life in a vase, initialed CEP, and a still life of roses in a vase; both are oils on canvas.
Cape Ann art includes John Whorf, N.A. (1903-1959), titled “Climbing the Hills,” watercolor, signed, 13½ by 19½ inches, custom framed from the Arvest Gallery, and a Milton Avery (American, 1885-1865), oil on canvas mounted on artist board of a Gloucester port scene. A letter from Milton Avery’s son accompanies this lot.
There is a statue of a Winter King Caribou, bronze on wood base, 54/110, measuring 24 by 25 by 9 inches, by Bob Scriver (American, 1914-1999), from a Manchester, Mass., collection.
Other items of interest in the auction include a rare white lacquered baby grand piano: This piano is a unique piece, mainly because of its white lacquered finish, which is not typical for grand pianos. The provenance adds to its historical and aesthetic value, being associated with the New Seabury estate in Mashpee, Mass., and decorated by John Berenson of Boston. This unusual piano could be a sought-after item for collectors of musical instruments or those interested in unique pieces of furniture.
An antique Smith and Patterson mahogany grandfather clock features mahogany wood, three heavy brass weights, a pendulum and tubes.
There is an 1862 black powder .54 caliber rifle. This rifle is a relic from the Civil War era, manufactured in 1862 by S.C. Robinson Arms Manufacturer in Richmond, Va. Collectors and historians highly seek firearms from this era for their historical significance and craftsmanship.
Two exclusive timepieces in the auction include a Vacheron Constantin LeCoultre “Mystery” wristwatch and an Omega Seamaster De Ville, both prestigious watchmaking brands known for their luxury and precision. The “Mystery” wristwatch is likely a reference to a model featuring an innovative display mechanism where the hands appear to float on the dial without visible connections. The 14K white gold case and bracelet add to its elegance and value, making it a prized possession for collectors of fine timepieces.
There are documents signed by Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, presidential commissions that have descended through the Coyle family, descendants of William Radford, admiral of the Civil War (1809-1890), and stepson of explorer William Clark.
These commissions represent formal appointments made by two significant US presidents, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, and are tied to notable historical figures, such as William Radford. They connect to pivotal moments in American history and the individuals who shaped the nation.
The auction will also feature a curated selection of Chinese porcelains, scrolls, antiques and Asian furniture sourced from various consignors by the firm’s Asian specialist. These porcelains represent a diverse collection of styles, periods and regions, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and the craftsmanship of the Far East.
The Kaminski Auctions gallery is at 117 Elliott Street, Route 62. The auction starts at 11 am Eastern Time. Bidders can participate in person, via phone or online through KaminskiLIVE, the company’s online bidding platform.
