The Monday, January 4th “pick” auction features volumes on art, literary criticism, archeology, travel, a collection of books on birds and mountain climbing. There is also a nice collection of history volumes especially pertaining to the New England States, the American Revolution, and the Civil War. We also have a number of volumes in slipcases that should be of interest to the discerning collector.
Of interest:
1. Spaulding (1937). Pen and Sword in Greece and Rome. This copy is inscribed by George S. Patton Jr. to Senator Henry Cabot Lodge.
2. Greenway (1878). Under the Window.
3. Wilbur aka Lowell (1848). The Biglow Papers.
4. Churchill (1933). The River War.
5. Kleukens (1933). Zwei die Nicht Zusammen Solten… Signed limited edition in limp vellum with Adolph Hitler listed as one of the 335 subscribers.
6. Cather (1918). My Antonia.
7. Dodge (1866). Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates. A gift note from the Author is laid in and is dated Dec. 25, 1895.
8. Wyckoff (1898, 2 Vols.). The Workers: An Experiment in Reality.
9. Mayhew (1848). The Comic Almanack for 1848. Illustrated by George Cruikshank.
10. Godfrey (1882). The Island of Nantucket.
11. Rickenbacker (1919). Fighting the Flying Circus. Inscribed by the Author.
12. Pyle (1892). Men of Iron.
13. Kingsley (1855, 3 Vols.) Westward Ho!
14. Irving (1989) A Prayer for Owen Meany. Signed letter by the Author discussing “The Cider House Rules” laid in.
