Roswell Douglas Sawyer -19th century painter born in New York 1850, He died in Rome, Italy at the age of 46. Studied with Boulanger and Lefebvre. He exhibited at the Paris Salon 1886, 1887. He was the brother of Ex-Governor Charles H. Sawyer of Dover, NH. He was edu-cated at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, and the Unversity of Gottinggen, Germany. Last 15 years of his life were devoted to the study of art in New York, Paris, Berlin and Florence. His works have been admitted to the exhibitions of New York Academy, Royal Acad-emy, and Paris Salon.
