Firearms, Asian, Music Box, Etc. from CT Estates & Henry Hammond Taylor Collection Many items of this impressive Americana sale ranging from early New England antiques, glass, and stoneware to treenware, lighting fixtures, and weapons, come from the Henry Hammond Taylor Collection. Taylor (Connecticut, 1878-1933) was an antiques collector, furniture restorer, and author with a passionate interest in early American furniture and decorative arts. Taylor kept a detailed journal recording where and when he purchased early American antiques, in this way providing remarkable provenance information for modern buyers. Repairs and other alterations made by Taylor were also recorded in this notebook, giving modern buyers insight into Colonial Revival restoration practices. In 1930, Taylor published a volume entitled “Knowing, Collecting and Restoring Early American Furniture” (Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott); the butterfly table offered in this sale was featured on the book’s cover. Prior to his death, Taylor bequeathed items in his collection to his many descendants.
